For new mamas- and those who are expecting very soon- this is a topic that many of you will relate to having a baby on top of all the stress and socialising that comes with this time of the year can be tough.
So why are the holidays such a hard time for new parents?
Not only do you have this brand new tiny human whom you’re trying to care for, but you’re also exhausted, feeling the pressure and worried about your boundaries being ignored.
Here are a few reminders for you:
- It’s OK if the holidays look and feel different this year.
- Nobody is entitled to hold.
- Nobody is entitled to your time-especially not now.
- Your family routine and wishes are worthy of respect.
- Money is tight with a baby-it’s OK to opt out of gifts this year.
- You don’t have to listen to or take anybody’s advice.
- You can ask guests to clean up after themselves.
- A no-sickness, no-exceptions policy is more than reasonable.
- It’s OK to leave early or arrive late.
- You can just say no-you don’t need to justify yourself.
