What self-sabotaging behaviour looks like in motherhood?

Self-sabotage is when we are excited about a goal but we unconsciously create obstacles that directly prevent the achievement of that goal.

Continually engaging in sabotaging behaviours will negatively impact many aspects of your life and hinder your personal growth.

Do any of these behaviours look familiar?

  • Conforming to others’ expectations
  • Compromising on your core values
  • Criticising or blaming yourself
  • Putting everyone’s needs before your own
  • Playing the role of a martyr
  • Avoiding difficult conversations
  • Silencing yourself to keep the peace
  • Not believing in yourself
  • People pleasing or perfection

If so, try this…

  • Self-reflect. Once you develop insight into where the fear or lack of self-esteem comes from you can become more intentional about where you need to make changes.
  • Write it out. Set meaningful goals and identify what small changes you need to make to stop the behaviours.
  • Befriend yourself by replacing critical thoughts with more nurturing ones.
  • Reach out for help. Communicate your feelings and be open to receiving support.
