The hot weather and the high humidity can cause discomfort and health risks for infants, who are more sensitive to temperature changes than adults. We have compiled hacks that can make your baby's summer go smooth like butter!

  • Keep your baby cool: The first and foremost thing to do is to keep your baby cool. Avoid taking your baby out during the hottest part of the day, typically from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dress your baby in lightweight and loose-fitting clothes made of breathable fabric like cotton. If you're using a stroller, make sure it has a sunshade or use an umbrella to provide shade.

  • Hydrate your baby: Babies need to stay hydrated, especially during summers. Breastfed babies don't require extra water as they get all the fluids they need from breast milk. For formula-fed babies, you can give them some extra water but check with your pediatrician first. If your baby is over six months, you can offer small sips of water or diluted fruit juice in a sippy cup throughout the day.

  • Protect your baby from the sun: Keep your baby out of direct sunlight, and if you need to take them outside, use a baby-safe sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Apply the sunscreen 15-30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every two hours or after swimming. Dress your baby in a hat with a brim that shades their face, ears, and neck.

  • Use a cool mist humidifier: A cool mist humidifier can help keep your baby's room cool and comfortable. It can also help ease congestion caused by dry air, making it easier for your baby to breathe.

  • Bathe your baby in lukewarm water: A cool bath can help reduce your baby's body temperature and make them feel more comfortable. Use lukewarm water, and avoid using cold water as it can cause shivers and make your baby uncomfortable. Don't use hot water as it can be dangerous for your baby's delicate skin.

  •  Watch for signs of dehydration: Dehydration can be a serious condition, especially in babies. Watch for signs like fewer wet diapers, dry mouth, sunken eyes, or lethargy. If you notice any of these signs, contact your pediatrician immediately.
