Getting ready for kindergarten! There are so many things to prepare:
- Manage the backpack! Let your little one practice putting all the books and copies inside the bag, and how to take them out all by themselves.
- Zips, velcro or slip-on, letting your child put on and take off is a great thing you can start right now. Problems with left and right? Pro tip: you can put a sticker on the inside arch or big toe- when the child can get the stickers to touch, they’ve got it correct.
- Most kids will have this mastered at home by now but consider practising taking your child to a restaurant or public place where they can practice going in a stall, taking care of business, exiting the stall and washing hands- all by themselves!
- Let your child learn how to open and pack all parts of their lunchbox.
- Let your child know about how they are getting home so they can tell an adult just in case, either by car ride, walking, or bus.
Every child is unique in their way and is progressing developmentally at their own pace. We love our educators to have patience as they help our little ones in every possible way and meet their demands, but this list is simply a suggested list of very practical skills that you can start at your right now!
