Baby diaper rash: Top prevention tips

Let’s chat: DIAPER RASHES!

Unfortunately, diaper rashes are pretty common-babies spend lots of time in diapers that first year and beyond! The combination of wet or solid diapers on delicate skin can cause some unpleasantness for both parents and babies!

Diaper rash prevention tips:

  • Change diapers frequently

The most important thing you can do is to change those wet or soiled diapers often! Prolonged exposure to urine or stool can irritate sensitive skin.

  • Rinse with warm water

It’s a good idea to wash the baby’s bottom afterward-use the tub to rinse or grab a moist washcloth to gently clean the area. When using wipes, just make sure you go with gentle, fragrance and alcohol-free types.

  • Air it out

When your baby does develop a rash, help it heal faster (and prevent it from getting worse) by taking the diaper off for a little while. Exposing that skin to air is also a natural and gentle way to let it dry.

  • Use ointment

Apply a barrier ointment during each diaper change to prevent skin irritation-petroleum jelly and zinc oxide are tried-and-true options!

  • Choose a gentle diaper brand

Since the majority of parents use disposable diapers, it’s important to find one that is right for your baby’s delicate skin.
